Preventive Dental Hygiene
Regularly scheduled routine oral examinations and cleanings at Robie Street Dental Centre can help you to prevent any dental issues which may arise and keep your smile bright and healthy.
Oral Examinations
Regular oral exams, ideally scheduled at least twice per year, give your dentists a chance to find any emerging oral health issues and create a treatment plan to help eliminate or prevent them.
In the course of your examination, your dentist will take a close look at your gums, teeth, jaw and bite. These examinations may also include dental x-rays and other diagnostic procedures such an an oral cancer screening.
Oral Cancer Screening
Oral cancer is capable of affecting any part of your mouth and its surrounding tissues. During your routine exam, your dentist may check your neck, lips, face, gums, throat, tongue and other tissues for signs of oral cancer which may be difficult to detect with the naked eye.
Oral Health Care at Home
To keep your smile healthy between your oral exams and dental appointments, make sure your brush your teeth at least twice per day for 2 minutes each time, and floss at least once per day.
Hygiene Cleaning
Either before or after your examination, your dental hygienist will perform a deep cleaning of your teeth and gums in order to prevent and treat diseases.
To begin, they will use a scaler to remove any tartar and plaque build-up. Next they will use a polisher and coarse toothpaste to remove any leftover stains or plaque, followed by a thorough flossing of your teeth and gums.
Fluoride Treatment
If your child or you have a predisposition to tooth decay, your dentist may recommend a fluoride treatment. Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral which can help to rebuild your tooth enamel or even reverse tooth decay.
